Sutherland says County needs an animal incinerator

One Councillor thinks there should be an incinerator for animal carcasses in the west end of the County of Grande Prairie.

Ross Sutherland says a lot of carcasses are dumped near where he lives.

“People, when they’re hunting, come out and they drop the hides and bones off in the ditch and the scavengers come and eat that and then, when they’re done that, the easy pickings, what are they going to do next? Some of the people in the area have complained of having wolf kill. I’m fortunate I don’t have any.”

He is also worried about dead animal parts spreading disease.

“With the bison, they’re very susceptible to a fever that is carried by sheep, so I don’t care to have the sheep fleeces, and/or the rest of the bodies dumped along my fence lines.”

These incinerators are usually located at landfills. Administration is looking into the idea.
