Take Back the Night set for Thursday

Nov 29, 2017 | 10:48 AM

The first Take Back the Night March for Grande Prairie is set to take place this Thursday.

People will walk through the downtown core to show their solidarity for victims of family violence.

“We are really excited about it, as we’ve recently revitalized our prevention network. We are just looking to engage a different demographic,” said Natasha Streeper, Chair of the Prevention of Family Violence Network.

“We know that family violence impacts everyone in our community.”

This will be the first event of its kind in Grande Prairie, and Streeper wants the community to come together.

“It’s really important for people to gather together and show solidarity for everyone impacted by family violence. We are all here for you and believe you,” she said.

“We know men are impacted, we know children are impacted and we know women are consistently impacted by family violence.”

Bringing people from all walks of life together is important to Streeper.

“It shows people who might feel alone, or like nobody is here or like there’s no services for them that, in fact, we hear you,” she said.

The march starts at Muskoseepi Park at 5 p.m. There will be food and drinks to follow at 6 p.m.

This is open to anyone, of any age and will start at five at Muskosseepi park pavilion
