Bylaw officers focused on winter driving safety

Dec 1, 2017 | 1:43 PM

Bylaw Officers in the city will be keeping an extra eye on winter driving safety in the month of December.

Sergeant Kelly Kokesch wants people to be safe during the winter season.

“Slow down when conditions are not ideal. Leave more space between your vehicle and the one ahead of you. Use your headlights all the time,” he said.

“Low-beams are more effective than fog and driving lights. Signal well in advance, make sure you’re signalling and take your time at traffic lights.”

Kokesch is also advising drivers to get winter tires to combat slippery conditions.

“Winter has brought on lots of snow and can bring a bunch of motor vehicle collisions. We encourage people to pay special attention to driving in snowy conditions,” he said.

“Use simple tips that are always out there. Make sure your vehicle is clear of frost and snow.”

He reminds the public that tickets can be handed out if people don’t follow bylaws.

“We will be paying more attention to (driving infractions) and keeping people in tune with safer driving habits.”
