New route and time for Santa Parade

Dec 1, 2017 | 4:55 AM

There are some changes to the annual Santa Parade in Grande Prairie this year.

Downtown Association President Helen Rice says it will start 3:00 p.m. Sunday at 100 Avenue and 102 Street and will go the wrong way down the one way.

“This year we are just going to go to 100 Street, turn right and then go up to 99 Avenue, turn right again and go along and disperse behind Revolution Place.”

She says there will be the first annual Tree Lighting to follow.

“A giant 27-foot Christmas Tree, we call it the Tree of Joy, and right after the parade, we will be the lighting of the giant Christmas tree. We wanted to tie those in together, so we will gauge reaction to the new time and new route for future years.”

She adds city councillors will serving up hot cocoa and cookies and there will be some carollers as well.

There are approximately 40 entries in the parade.
