Electoral boundaries changes now before legislature

Dec 5, 2017 | 10:41 AM

A bill meant to enact changes to electoral boundaries in Alberta is now before the legislature.

It is expected to go to second reading tomorrow, then to committee next week. That is where amendments could be proposed.

The Electoral Boundaries Commission final report is recommending changes to three Peace Country ridings.

A new constituency would take in most of the city with Flying Shot Lake added in.

Part of the east side of the city, plus anything south of the County of Grande Prairie boundaries between the BC border and Smoky River, would be in GP Wapiti.

GP Smoky would be wiped off the map. Anything east of the Smoky River down to Fox Creek that is currently in Smoky would join Dunvegan-Central Peace-Notley to form the new Central-Peace Notley riding.
