New Catholic Junior-Senior High School to open late February
Students will have to wait a little bit longer to get into their classroom at the new high school in the Arbour Hills neighbourhood.
Grande Prairie and District Catholic Schools Superintendent Karl Germann explains they had originally announced they were bumping the opening date to January 29, 2018 for St. John Paul II Junior-Senior High School. Due to their heating sub-contractor going into receivership, they had to bump the opening date to mid or late February.
“All the work continues inside that school. The mill-work is already in place, the flooring is done, the first coat of paint is on, [and] we are just actually waiting for the rest of the heating system to be installed. That is some of the stuff that needs to be done,” said Germann. “A lot of stuff is starting to be delivered and set up in the school. We are getting excited for that. We just have to wait a few more weeks.”
The original opening date was set for September 2017. According to Germann, it is a big task to get a facility like this one open because it is “a lot like a two-story mall”.
