Paw Patrol toys popular this Christmas: Local manager

Dec 6, 2017 | 5:00 AM

With Christmas around the corner, toys will be flying off the shelves at stores in Grande Prairie.

Paw Patrol-branded items are among the most popular toys this year sold at Canadian Tire, according to the General Manager Ron Regnier.

With the new Star Wars: The Last Jedi hitting theatres before Christmas, he also anticipates Star Wars-themed toys to be a hit with kids.

“Cars [movie] was released earlier this year, so we are seeing a lot more of the Cars [toys] move. My Little Pony movie, it came out earlier this year, and we are seeing a lot of those [toys] start to move. That’s an easy way for parents to determine what is going to be possible. Chances are if they like the movie, they are going to the like the corresponding toys.”

Last year, Hatchimals were a favourite for children, and Regnier said they are appearing on some people’s shopping lists again this year.

“Everyone thought it was going to be like the Furby, a one-hit wonder, but a lot of people have been looking for those.”

Although Fingerlings aren’t sold at Canadian Tire stores, they are making the top of some wish lists with people over-paying for them through bidding wars online in the Grande Prairie area. The toy is essentially a small plastic monkey that sits on your finger.

The classics like Lego sets and Nerf guns are making their way into shopping carts as well.

For the adults, appliances seem to be a hot item, according to the GM. He didn’t name anything specific but said brands like Dyson and Ninja go very fast.

The Instapot is the next hot item that they are eagerly re-stocking as they sold 300 on the first day it was on the shelf.

He is also seeing more people in the store spending money which points to more presents under the tree in Grande Prairie this Christmas.
