Dogs on the loose in Wembley

Dec 15, 2017 | 7:31 AM

After numerous reports of loose dogs in Wembley, the Town’s Chief Administrative Officer is reminding residents of the Animal Control Bylaws.

Lori Parker says there were reports on Facebook of dogs, mostly pit bull breeds, roaming the streets which prompted her to put out the note.

“In our bylaw, no owner should permit a dog to be running at large in the Town of Wembley. For the first offence it is a $100 fine, the second offence it is a $200 fine, and for the third offence you may appear in court,” said Parker.

She encourages residents to familiarize themselves with the Animal Control Bylaws in their town or city. For Wembley, the bylaws are available on their website

Parker is reminding people that even tying your dog to a post in the town while you run into a store can cost you a ticket.

“What we are asking our residents is that if they do see a dog running at large to please take a picture of the dog [and] report it to county enforcement animal control. Without their statement, animal control and the Town of Wembley really can’t do anything.”

Parker highlighted other bylaws to follow like only keeping two dogs on one property, keeping dogs licensed, and picking up after them when they do their business.
