Drug charges withdrawn against one man

Charges have been withdrawn against one of the four people charged in a 2016 ALERT bust in Grande Prairie that police said was connected to a gang known as the Surrey Boys.

Richard Morales had been facing trafficking charges.

A stay of proceedings is still in place against two others charged at the time, Danielle Zenter and Thomas Saul.

A warrant is still out for the fourth accused, Kristopher Soucy after he failed to show up for a court appearance in May.

The group was arrested and charged after searches on January 21, 2016, turned up around $250,000 worth of drugs and cash, along with two handguns and three vehicles. A total of 73 charges were laid at the time of the arrests.

Jail time in Grimshaw shooting

A man charged after a February shooting in Grimshaw has been given a six-year jail sentence.

Alberta Justice says Dustin Tyler St. Laurent pleaded guilty to a charge of assault with a weapon in a November 27 court appearance in Peace River. He after originally being charged with attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, aggravated assault and other counts.

He will be given five months credit for time already spent in custody.

Peace Regional RCMP said on February 12, a man that had been shot had walked into a local store and locked himself in the bathroom. The investigation found he had been lured to another location where the shooting occurred. Police say it was not a random act.

St. Laurent was arrested March 10.
