Wildlife collisions, record checks keeping Beaverlodge RCMP busy

Dec 20, 2017 | 4:31 AM

Beaverlodge RCMP Detachment Commander Sergeant Dave Gallant says collisions between wildlife and vehicles are one of the things keeping members busy.

“It’s up this year and I’m not sure why, but there just seems to be a lot of animals out there roaming around. It’s daily, sometimes three or four a day.”

Sgt. Gallant says they are also busy with criminal record checks, doing five or six a day.

“Lots of criminal record checks, so that’s what the office staff are busy with.”

The Beaverlodge RCMP detachment will soon have a full complement of officers, says Gallant.

“We have one recruit that should be done recruit field training in February, so we’ll have myself, a corporal and six constables, so eight of us.

Gallant adds property crimes are down, something he calls “a good thing.”
