Alberta Motor Association gives winter driving tips

Dec 22, 2017 | 4:21 AM

If you’re traveling to see family this holiday season, it is a good idea to be prepared for the drive.

Alberta Motor Association Manager of Technical Services Randy Loyk says leaving for a trip with a cellphone and the right tires is important.

He also says having winter or all-season tires, and leaving with a full tank of fuel is also important.

“It’s always best to travel with light out. Call ahead to where you’re going … It gives other people an idea of when to expected you,” said Loyk.

Having an emergency kit in your vehicle is also important. Loyk says it should have things like food, a blanket, and candles should not be left behind.

“If you do become stranded at night … You could run into a situation where your cell phone’s not working,” he said.

“You may be with the vehicle for a while, so it’s nice to have those items with you to protect your health.”
