Keep your snow on your property: Rempel

Dec 26, 2017 | 9:27 AM

County of Grande Prairie Enforcement Services says it has received some complaints about improper snow removal this winter.

Superintendent of Regional Enforcement Services Stuart Rempel says improper messaging may be part of the problem.

“The challenge with snow removal is we don’t get the consistent messaging out to people until we’ve had a major dump of snow and everybody complains, and everybody is out shovelling onto the road. If I could share one message for the region and for the County of Grande Prairie is keep your snow on your property.”

Rempel says pushing snow onto streets can lead to a number of problems.

“It slows down the snow removal efforts of public works. It freezes on the road, it causes a traffic safety issue for other users of the road. When people push it across the road into the ditch, the graders, when they’re back-blading, encounter that and it breaks blades, breaks equipment and in the spring, it causes flooding because the ditches can’t do what they’re supposed to do.”
