Odyssey House executive director praises Oprah speech

Jan 8, 2018 | 9:55 AM

The executive director of Odyssey House is applauding Oprah Winfrey’s Golden Globes speech warning powerful men who abuse women that their time is up.

Ebony Rempel says it is important that this conversation is happening and gaining momentum.

“I feel really blessed I suppose and privileged, to live in an era where women can go up and make those kinds of speeches and say those kind of things and get standing ovations not boos or questioned or negativity around it.”

She says more women are finding the courage to come forward and share their stories with less fear of not being believed.

“Because I have been trying to have these kinds of conversations about gender and feminists for my whole life and they are not always well received and so this really gives me even the platform to interject this into a social conversation perhaps.”

After that speech, the hashtag Oprah 2020 started trending on Twitter.
