Wolves female basketball team adds two new players

Jan 10, 2018 | 11:37 AM

The second half of the season is set to begin this weekend for the Grande Prairie Regional College Wolves basketball teams, and ahead of their home games against The Kings University, the female team has announced they have added two new players.

” Cassandra Storie, a graduate of the (Grande Prairie Composite High School) comp, and Kayla Raiwet, a graduate of Charles Spencer. She also played for GPRC basketball back in 2015-2016, ” explained Head Coach Mandy Botham.

Botham describes Storie as a fiery player, who will bring a ton of energy to the club. While Raiwet has a high basketball IQ and will bring a bunch of leadership to a young team.

Botham is always keeping an eye out for new players, whether it be for the current semester or for the future. However, due to the short numbers in the first semester, Botham felt it would be extremely impactful to add both Storie and Raiwet, especially to help in those tight games which the club experienced prior to the Christmas break.

The GPRC Wolves will open up the second half of the season against TKU, the club which handed the Wolves two tough losses to conclude the first semester.

” I’m really excited to play the Kings for the start of the second half of our season. We lost two heartbreakers to them at the beginning of December to conclude the first half. I know those losses have been weighing on my mind and my athletes. We have used that as motivation through the holidays and then getting back at it in January, ” says Botham.

The GPRC Women’s basketball team hosts TKU Friday at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

The Men’s basketball team will be in action against TKU following the women at 8:00 p.m. Friday, and 3:00 p.m. Saturday.
