Athletics and Flyers earn wins Thursday night

Jan 12, 2018 | 10:23 AM

The Grande Prairie Athletics and Fort St.John Flyers continue to prove why they are contenders in the North Peace Hockey League this season.

Both clubs were on the ice Thursday evening and both earned victories.

In Fort St.John, the Flyers hosted the Dawson Creek Canucks who have dropped back to last in the West division following the forfeiture of four games from earlier on this year.

It was a tight contest between the two B.C clubs, but the Flyers would end up walking away with a 5-3 win.

Grande Prairie, on the other hand, was on the road in Grimshaw.

The contest was a tight one, but a three-goal third period would vault the Athletics to a 5-1 victory.

With both Fort St.John, and Grande Prairie winning Thursday night, the Athletics remain just one point back of the Flyers for first in the West Division.

Action will resume in the league Friday evening when Manning hosts High Prairie.
