Tow truck hit while loading vehicle near Valleyview
A tow truck driver suffered non-life threatening injuries after an SUV collided with a tow truck and the vehicle it was towing near Valleyview.
A tow truck was stopped on the shoulder of Highway 49 and Township Road 720 around 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2018. As the crew was loading a vehicle onto the flat deck, an SUV hit the tow truck, drove up the deck ramp, and collided with the other vehicle being towed, according to an RCMP release.
The driver of the tow truck was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The three people in the SUV were not injured, but the driver was charged with driving carelessly.
RCMP are reminding residents to slow down and move over when approaching emergency vehicles. Police also remind drivers to drive according to road and weather conditions. The Traffic Safety Act requires motorists to reduce their speed to 60 km/h or the posted speed limit, whichever is lower when passing an emergency vehicle or tow truck stopped with their lights flashing. RCMP say this also applies to the lane next to the stopped vehicles. The fines are doubled in these areas for speeding.
