City getting full of snow: Transportation Services Manager

Feb 2, 2018 | 6:20 AM

The snowfall warning for our region remains in effect.

Environment Canada says anywhere between 20 to 30 cm is expected before the storm moves east and south, tapering off tomorrow morning.

The government agency is advising people to consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.

Robert Carroll, Transportation Services Manager for the City, says they have 50 pieces of equipment working and continuous trucks dumping snow at the city’s one snow dump, in the south-east part of Grande Prairie.

“It is a busy spot right now, hauling continuously 24 hours a day into there with six of the city’s trucks and we’ve probably got ten contracted trucks hauling into there pretty much full time.”

Already he says there have been tens of thousands of loads dropped off at that location.

“The city is getting full for sure, especially in residential areas, finding somewhere to put the snow that we are clearing is and will always be a challenge.”
