Ledcor Highway Maintenance brace for winter storm

Mar 2, 2018 | 5:20 AM

With a winter storm warning in place, the company that clears the highways is bracing for the dump.

Freddy Kimambe with Ledcor Highway Maintenance says they have been monitoring the weather ahead of the anticipated snowfall.

“We are working with our additional resources, such as the RWI stations, which is the road/weather/information system posted along the various highways.”

The weather warning called for heavy snow and winds gusting from 50-70km/hr, which could make visibility very poor at times.

“If they are able to delay or postpone their travel, then certainly,” said Kimambe. “But we cannot necessarily control what people do.  But we do ask them to obviously drive to conditions and make sure that they are also paying attention to the snow plows we have out there.”

According to Environment Canada, areas to the south and west of Grande Prairie could see 20 or 25cm of snow…the heaviest will fall near the BC border.

“We are prepared, and we will be out there and making sure that we are taking care of the roads for the public.  We are also drivers on those roads.”
