Grande Prairie man charged for assault in Sexsmith area

On March 2nd at 10:00 a.m., the Grande Prairie RCMP responded to a complaint of an assault in the Sexsmith area.

The suspect then fled the scene and a female was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation revealed the suspect was staying at a hotel North of town, and on March 3rd, police attended the hotel and arrested him for his offences from the previous day.

While escorting the suspect out of the building, he attempted to flee and police were forced to struggle with him before he was taken into custody.

Jeremie Laframboise, 27, of Grande Prairie has been charged with 16 criminal code offences which include:

– Aggravated assault

– Forcible confinement

– Uttering threats

– Careless use of a firearm

– Unsafe storage of a firearm

– Unauthorized possession of a firearm

– Possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized

– Assault on a police officer x 2

– Disarming a police officer x 2

– Resist/obstruct police officer x 2

– Breach of recognizance x 3

The officers were not injured.

Laframboise made his first court appearance on these charges Monday. He is due back in court March 21.
