TWN forecasting slow start to spring

Mar 5, 2018 | 11:45 AM

It will be a slow start to spring in the Peace, according to The Weather Network.

Meteorologist Nadine Powell says temperatures in early spring should be below normal, with daytime highs around the freezing mark in late March.

“It seems as though we’re going to be holding onto a bit more of that cold, or below seasonal temperatures, as we head into the first half of April or so, and then temperatures, in terms of averages, will be moderating.”

She says precipitation amounts should be near normal.

“In terms of snowfall, probably about 20 centimetres or so, give or take a few centimetres. Amounts sort of decrease into April and, certainly, for May. We’re not expecting anything to deviate too far from normal precipitation numbers.”

Powell adds a gradual climb in temperatures should mean the snow will melt more slowly.

“Of course, last year, the fire season was really, really bad for us. It started off early, but this year it seems it may hold off a bit. That heat really comes in for us for summer.”
