Local women to be honoured at awards luncheon Thursday
As part of International Women’s Day on Thursday, the city will be recognizing the achievements of local women with the first-ever “Women of Influence” Awards Reception and Luncheon.
Three awards will be handed out; Young Woman of Influence, Trailblazing Woman of Influence, and Distinguished Woman of Influence.
Angela Sutherland, Manager of the Community Social Development department with the City of Grande Prairie says they received more than 20 nominations of exceptional local women.
“These women have considerable experience in our community, in different aspects. I don’t want to give it away however, these women are very community-minded, have donated and worked with various groups, and have been involved with making a really strong social impact to Grande Prairie.”
“It was really, really difficult to decide who the winners were because it was such an amazing group of nominations. And I want to recognize that the community stepped forward and really got involved with this.”
Sutherland thinks there will be some buzz around the day and hopefully, it will grow for next year.
The awards luncheon will be held Thursday at Teresa Sargent Hall.
The keynote speaker is City Councillor Eunice Friesen.
