Local musician makes it big

Mar 12, 2018 | 3:59 PM

Five years ago, musician and philanthropist Tenille Townes drove from Grande Prairie to Nashville to pursue a music career.  This summer she will go on tour with some of country music’s biggest stars.

She will be part of The Bandwagon Tour with Grammy, CMA and ACM award-winners Miranda Lambert and Little Big Town, the 24-year-old announced Monday.

Townes says her dad was in Nashville visiting her last week when the news was confirmed.

“We got to celebrate together and go for ice cream and have a moment of tearing up in the car thinking about it. I am just so excited to see so many of these things starting to happen and come to life.  I’ve been dreaming about this for so long.  It’s crazy cool!”

Known in the Peace Region as Tenille Nadkrynechny, she now goes by Tenille Townes.

“Townes is actually from Township Road 722, which is the road that I grew up on and the house that built me essentially, so that’s where that all comes from.”

She says she wouldn’t be where she is today without the support of her parents and the entire community.

“It makes me emotional just thinking about it,” she said.  “I can’t get over how many text messages I have on my phone right now from family and friends and people from home that are just so pumped.”

“I’m just so overwhelmed with the support and encouragement of people who have been on this ride from the very beginning.  It honestly feels like we are getting to do this all together and I wouldn’t want that any other way,” she said.

Other opening acts on the tour include Turnpike Troubadours, Natalie Hemby, and The Steel Wools.

The Bandwagon Tour is scheduled to hit the road this July.  Toronto is the only Canadian stop on the tour.
