A Grande Prairie man has been charged with more than 20 weapons-related offences and for having an improvised explosive device after RCMP searched a property near Grovedale.

On Saturday morning, Grande Prairie RCMP rural members, along with RCMP city members, the RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit (EDU), Western Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit and Police Dog Services, executed the search warrant.

They seized four firearms, including one that was stolen, ammunition, an improvised explosive device and a computer and thumb drives.

David Monette, 47, of Grande Prairie remains in police custody and will appear in court in Grande Prairie tomorrow.

Police would like to thank the public for their continued efforts in order to help solve crime within our community.  They say in this particular case they had received information that the resident had a number of prohibited weapons stored on the property.
