Alberta Transportation issues travel advisory

Mar 22, 2018 | 3:31 PM

As we remain under a snowfall warning, Alberta Transportation has released a travel advisory for parts of northwestern and central Alberta.

According to Environment Canada, the Grande Prairie region could get up to 15 cm of heavy, wet snow by tomorrow afternoon or evening, along with strong winds.

“We are just asking people to be aware of that, and if they don’t have to be driving maybe put off their travel plans for a day or two until things warm up and the roads are clear,” said Wayne Wood, Communications with AB Transportation.

He says Alberta Transportation will have all their plows and snow clearing equipment out on the highways.

You can check on road conditions and track where the plows are at 511Alberta.

Wood is also reminding motorists if they must travel, to turn their headlights on, even during daytime.

“The daytime running lights are fine, but your rear lights aren’t on with daytime running lights.  So, if you turn your headlights on, your rear lights come on and then people coming up behind you will be able to see that you’re there,” he explained.

It’s also important to have a fully charged cell phone and full tank of gas when hitting the highway.
