Court update: Jail time set in two cases, trial date set in another

A Peace River court has handed down a jail sentence after the 2015 hold-up of the ATB branch in Berwyn.
 
Christopher Trevor Lawrence was given a four year, nine-month sentence February 23 for a charge of Robbery.
 
He will be given nine months credit for time already spent in custody.
 
Lawrence was one of two men charged after a hold-up the afternoon of April 16, 2015.
 
Co-accused Malcolm Testawits was found not guilty of a similar charge in April of last year but is serving a three-and-a-half year sentence for other crimes.
 
 
Trial date set for robbery case related to the Prairie Mall shooting
 
Alberta Justice says a new trial date has been set for a man facing a Robbery charge after the 2016 shooting incident at the Prairie Mall.  
 
The trial for Richard Vaillancourt will take place May 9 in Grande Prairie Court of Queen’s Bench.
 
Earlier trial dates had been set in provincial court but were put off.
 
The trial for the accused shooter, Liban Musse, is set for early July.
 
Three other men were also charged. One was given 30 days jail time for Failure to Comply. An Assault charge against one of the others and a Breach charge against the third were dismissed.
 
 
Jail time for a man facing weapons counts after a bar fight
 
A November 4, 2017, incident where a weapon came out during a fight in a Grande Prairie bar has led to jail time for one man.
 
Alberta Justice says Dionne Trahey pleaded guilty to four charges, Breach of Recognizance, Possession of a Weapon, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, and Possession of a Firearm in a Vehicle during a Wednesday court appearance in Grande Prairie.
 
He was also given another six-month sentence for separate Dangerous Driving and obstructing a peace officer counts, for a total sentence of eight months in jail.
 
Trahey will be given one month credit for time already spent in custody.
