AMA: vehicle thefts down in Grande Prairie

Mar 26, 2018 | 10:40 AM

Vehicle thefts in Grande Prairie have gone down according to the latest numbers from the Alberta Motor Association.

AMA’s Senior Policy Analyst Scott Wilson says there are 10 vehicle thefts per week in the city.

“If you go back a couple of years, Grande Prairie was sticking out like a bit of a sore thumb when it came to vehicle theft but in the last year or so we’ve seen Grande Prairie improve substantially so there is something good happening in Grande Prairie.”

He says there are 14 incidents per week of theft from vehicles.

“One of the other things we did find from the survey that we did with our members, we talked to members right across the province, was that there was more of a likelihood in Grande Prairie of individuals to leave their documents in their vehicle.”

AMA offers some tips to “outwit vehicle thieves”:

– Park in a garage
– Turn it off and take the keys
– Lock the doors
– Guard your key fob
– Get an alarm
– Ensure valuables are out of sight
– Purchase a club
– Park in a well-lit area
– Don’t Leave Vehicle Papers in the Glovebox
