Spruce Grove claims AJHL championship

Apr 21, 2018 | 8:07 AM

For the fifth time in the last nine years, the Spruce Grove Saints have been crowned Alberta Junior Hockey League champions.

The Saints edged the Okotoks Oilers 3-2 on Friday night to claim the Inter Pipeline Cup in five games.

TJ Lloyd, Chase Olson and Josh Harris each scored for the Saints, who went 12-1 during the playoffs, including a four game sweep of the Grande Prairie Storm during the second round of the playoffs.

Harris had 6 goals and 15 points in 13 playoff games en route to being named the AJHL Playoffs MVP.

The Saints will now face the BCHL champion Wenatchee Wild in the Doyle Cup series to determine the Pacific region rep in this year’s RBC Cup.

That series begins Friday night in Wenathcee, Washington.
