WCB Alberta says 166 died from workplace injury or illness in this province last year.
Today is the National Day of Mourning for all those killed or injured on the job.
Alberta Minister of Labour Christina Gray is asking everyone to take a moment today to remember those people.
The Alberta Federation of Labour has sent out a release welcoming Bill 30, the province’s new Occupational Health and Safety Act.
It says this will give workers more say in Health and Safety by allowing Joint Work Site Health and Safety Committees or Representatives for places with five or more employees.
Gray says the new Occupational Health and Safety Act is set to come into effect June 1.
