Apr 28, 2018 | 7:05 AM

UPDATE (5:32 p.m. Apr 30) The State of Local Emergency has been lifted in Hythe as water has receded in the area.

A State of Local Emergency has been declared in the village of Hythe after extensive flooding in the West Industrial Area and Willowgrove mobile home subdivision – brought on by rapidly melting snow.

Pumping activity is underway in the community, as well as in Sexsmith which is also experiencing flooding.

Parents are asked to keep their kids away from the equipment being used for pumping in both communities.

The bridge on Township Road 722, west of Happy Trails RV, has been closed.

Township Road 722 will be closed between 116 St. and RR70 to local traffic only.

Several roads in and around both communities are closed, and motorists are asked to obey road closures in both areas.

Sand bags are available for Sexsmith residents at the Public Works location at 10530 – 95th Avenue.

Crews are on site in both communities and the Grande Prairie Regional Emergency Operations Centre is activated and is monitoring the situation in both municipalities.
