Dry, windy forecast leads to moderate wildfire rating

May 5, 2018 | 9:56 AM

The wildfire hazard in the Grande Prairie region is now moderate.

The local wildfire information office says dry, windy conditions are in the forecast for the next couple of days, which could lead to grassy areas becoming an extreme wildfire danger as they continue to dry.

They caution people to be careful if they are burning or using off-highway vehicles.

You are also reminded that burning is not allowed in windy conditions.

The wildfire hazard in the Peace River management area has been increased to high.

Meanwhile, Sturgeon Lake Fire Department and Agriculture and Forestry officials will continue hazard reduction burning in that area over the weekend and into next week, with hopes of lessening the risk of human-caused fires.
