Biggest response yet to Dignity Drive
Organizers of the Dignity Drive say the response to their latest campaign has been phenomenal.
Jane Manning with the Sunrise Rotary Club says they did the drive to collect clean socks and underwear for the Grande Prairie Friendship Centre, HIV North, the St. Lawrence Centre and Rotary House.
“For some of our people who are street-involved , the worst thing for them is their feet because if they don’t have clean socks and they get soiled or wet, then it can be really hard on the health of their feet. Often, they don’t have access to the washers and dryers that we have, so washing and using things over and over isn’t as easy for them.”
This was their third drive, and Manning says it was their biggest campaign so far. She adds
they plan to run the campaign every April and October.
“Mainly, we focus on men and women, because the four agencies support men and women. We do have some children’s things that will come in the bags and we’ll divide them up and make sure they go to (some place) like Odyssey House.”
