A dozen groups have been given transportation grants by the County of Grande Prairie.

The grants, worth $128,106, are for organizations that provide a way to get around for seniors or people with special needs.

The recipients include the following:

Disabled Transportation Society of Grande Prairie – $75,000

Grande Spirit Foundation – $15,000

Hythe & District Pioneer Homes – $11,556

Golden Years Club of Bezanson – $4,550

Twilight Club of La Glace – $6,300

Town of Beaverlodge – $3,000

 Beaverlodge Seniors Citizens Association – $ 2,700

The Silver & Gold Pioneer Club of Wembley – $2,500

Beaverlodge Hidden Potential Society – $2,500

Sexsmith Sunset Homes & Tenant Association – $2,000

Amisk Court Social Club – $1,500

Grande Prairie & District Golden Age Centre – $ 1,500

“Without the support of the various community organizations providing transportation services, residents who are uncomfortable or unable to drive may be limited in their ability to access medical, recreational, shopping and social activities,” said Coree Ladwig, FCSS Seniors and Adult Program Team Lead. “These grants are a means to support County residents to help ensure that they can continue to access resources that will assist in promoting their independence and enhancing their quality of life.”
