Wireless devices will be included in emergency alert test Wednesday

You might receive an emergency alert test over your smartphone Wednesday afternoon.

Alert Ready will be running test alerts over television, radio, and for the first time, alerts will be sent to compatible wireless devices.

It will sound familiar to many Grande Prairie residents who received a flash flood alert April 28th.

Jennifer Wood, Program Coordinator for Grande Prairie Regional Emergency Partnership says Wednesday’s is just a test but area residents could receive a real one again. She says depending on the type of alert, that could mean leaving the area or staying in your home.

“It’s really important that people follow the direction,” Wood said.

The test alert is scheduled to go off at 1:55 this (Wednesday) afternoon.

Local schools are asking parents and caregivers to warn their children, just so they aren’t startled when the alert goes off.
