Not everyone received test alert Wednesday and it’s unlcear why

It appears not all the bugs were worked out of the new wireless Alert Ready system.  Testing took place in Alberta Wednesday with many people reporting they did not receive the alert over their smartphone.

Jennifer Wood, Program Coordinator with GPREP says these alerts are just another way to get critical information out to the public. She says it’s hard to say how many people didn’t get the notification on their phone.

“I think we do tests to try things out.  So, I think it was the opportunity to see how it worked and for them to realize that there were some issues to work out and I know they are now looking into it,” she said.

Alert Ready says on their website that devices need to be connected to an LTE network. It also says phone compatibility depends on many factors, including the handset and the software version on the device. You can check if your phone is compatible on their website or with your carrier.
