Talks continuing over design work for Wapiti Recreation Area

May 11, 2018 | 1:26 PM

County of Grande Prairie Council is hoping to bring down the price of detailed design work on the Wapiti Recreation Area.

This would see trails and other things installed in the depleted gravel pits.

The County’s Megan Schur says they want the bring price below $100,000.

“We have a certain amount budgeted for the overall project for the 2018 year. Out of that budget, we have various expenses. The lion’s share is going to be to pay for this design, to have this done by a professional firm, but we do have other expenses such as marketing materials and those sorts of things.”

Schur is hopeful something can be finalized by the end of next week with ISL Engineering, the contractor endorsed by County Council.

She adds a number of features would go into that area.

“We contemplate having amenities such as an off-leash dog park, trails is a predominant feature, potentially a bike park, and then, we’re looking at some lower-scale infrastructure such as some day-use areas like fire pits, picnic tables, some warming shelters.”
