Valleyview students take 5 km walk for good cause

May 13, 2018 | 11:46 AM

Students from St. Stephen’s School in Valleyview took a walk for a good cause.

Teacher Kathryn Gauthier says more than a dozen Christian Leadership students walked 5 kilometres, the distance many people in Africa walk every day for clean water.

“Just (be)cause that is the average distance for a one-way trip to walk to get water,” she said. “And some (students) chose to wear heavy backpacks to symbolize the water that they were carrying on the walk.”

They raised $859.

“Some went door-to-door to collect funds but most of our money came from just doing ice cream sales at our school.”

She says that money raised will provide clean water for 34 people.
