County campgrounds open for season
County campgrounds are now open for the season.
The six areas available for camping opened today (May 15) and include Bear Lake, Demmit, Hommy, Kleskun Hill, Pipestone Creek, and the Old Bezanson Townsite. For the 2018 season, there are discounts available for booking five or more sites in the Bear Lake, Demmit, Hommy, and Kleskun Hill campgrounds. For the Old Bezanson Townsite, there are only group sites available while all the other campgrounds have individual sites as well.
For those planning ahead for the Bear Creek Folk Festival, the County of Grande Prairie is encouraging people to pre-book their sites at Kleskun Hill and Bear Lake. During the three day event from August 17 to 19, there will be a shuttle bus taking festival goers to and from Bear Lake.
“This summer we will be focusing on making Bear Lake Campground even more of a family-friendly ‘stay-cation’ destination through beautification and providing the facility with a bit of a refresh,” said Parks and Recreation Manager Christine Rawlins in a media release.
She also says that the area is a good day-trip location and non-motorized watersports are encouraged on the lake.
After success in 2017 with reserving Pipestone Creek sites online, people are able to book online again this year. The County says the success last year has lead to some upgrades including more power sites being added at the end of the season.
Sitemaps, availability and contact information is available on the County of Grande Prairie website.
