41st Grande Prairie Stompede gets underway

May 30, 2018 | 5:30 AM

The 41st Annual Stompede is set to get underway at noon Wednesday at Evergreen Park.

President Trevor Denis says the event seems to grow in popularity each year.

“I think every year we put this on is fantastic. It’s a good win for our community and definitely our region.”

Denis adds the horses and their riders have had plenty of practice time even with the late start to spring.

“I think the guys have been training since mid-April. We had a lot of snow plowing to get done to get the horses ready to go.”

This year’s event will feature a couple of new additions.

“We have the Arts and Culture Expo on Friday and Saturday. While the Mounted Shooters will be hosted on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in the Drysdale Centre,” said Denis.

The Stompede runs until June 3.
