New Radio System to be implemented by Emergency Services

May 31, 2018 | 11:40 AM

A brand new radio system is on the way for Emergency Services in Grande Prairie.

Grande Prairie Fire Chief Preben Bossen says each emergency service will have a different time frame of when they will implement the new system.

“I believe the RCMP are in the process. It will be a year or so. I am not entirely sure, but I think it will be some time for them to roll it out. I know that County Fire Services will be live on the system in a month as well. “

Emergency Services is hoping to enhance coverage and improve communication with the new system.

“One is the coverage in the City. Previously we had two channels, but we got really poor coverage so we couldn’t communicate throughout the City. We have many more channels on our new system as we pretty much have unlimited now, ” added Bossen.

Bossen also noted that with the adjustments they will now be able to communicate with all of North Western Alberta.
