Enforcement Services looking for a dog involved in a Grande Prairie attack

Jun 6, 2018 | 3:35 PM

Grande Prairie Enforcement Services is looking for a dog involved in an attack Tuesday night.

Sargent Kelly Kokesch says a woman was walking her two small dogs when she was attacked by two pit-bull type dogs.

One dog has been detained and the other was last seen in the Crystal Landing area Tuesday around 9:30 p.m.

“We’re not sure where the dog is right now, but it may be at large. If anyone sees it, we’re certainly interested to hear where the dog might be. If you see it loose, certainly call Enforcement Services or the RCMP. We definitely intend to see if it is the same dog and take care of that dog at large.”

The woman had to be taken to hospital for treatment of injuries that are considered serious, but not life-threatening. She had posted on Facebook that she had two lacerations near her eye and on her jaw. She said the dogs also bit through her hand and foot. She was treated in hospital and released.

The owner of the dogs was treated on scene.

The animal that remains at large is described as a tan and white pit bull type dog. The second dog was captured by Enforcement Services.

Kokesch says they get calls every day for dogs at large and this one is of public interest because someone was attacked.

“We get calls on dogs at large and incidents that happen with dogs on all different levels every day and we respond to those in a very serious manner to make sure nothing else happens.”

The number for Enforcement Services is 780-830-5790. The RCMP can be reached at 780-830-5700.
