Grande Prairie resident is a millionaire

John Dawson of Grande Prairie is a millionaire after scratching a winning Mega Cash Scratch N Win $1.5 million ticket.

He was in such disbelief that he had to get his ticket checked twice.

“When I first saw the amount, I couldn’t believe my eyes,” said Dawson. “I was back at the store within a matter of minutes. I had to make sure it was real.”

Once the realization started to settle in, he began to think about what to do with the winnings.

“My first thought was my family,” added Dawson. “I want to help them as much as I can. I’d like to put some education money away for my kids. I don’t want them to have to struggle with that like I did.”

In addition to wanting to buy a new home, a trip to the east coast is in the cards for Dawson as well.

“I want to surprise my parents,” he said. “I’m going to fly to New Brunswick and surprise them by taking them to a dealership and buying them a new vehicle.”

Dawson purchased the ticket at the Mac’s store on 76 Avenue in Grande Prairie.
