Website launched to help newcomers in Grande Prairie

A website that was just an idea in 2015 has come to fruition almost three years later.

Along with the Grande Prairie Local Immigration Partnership, the City of Grande Prairie has launched GPimmigration.ca in hopes to help connect newcomers. The focus is put on living, learning, and working.

“It is basically a one-stop shop. If you are interested in some English as a second language course, it will tell you where to go to find that out. If you are looking for other newcomer or cultural groups, it will tell you where to go for that,” said Blair Wade, City Communications Advisor.

The portal is available in 25 different languages and is complete with a “resource directory”.

“If you click on that and select a category, you can learn about things like local media, arts, and culture, or public transportation. You select and it lists all of the organizations in town that are relevant to that category,” said Wade.
