Pride Week grows in Grande Prairie

Jun 18, 2018 | 7:09 AM

Pride Week activities in Grande Prairie wrapped up over the weekend.

Grande Prairie Pride Society member Truelee Love feels their events picked up a lot more momentum compared to the past two years.

“All of our tickets for our different events sold quite a bit faster than they did before, we’ve had a lot more businesses and community members interested in Community Alley for the carnival, it’s just been a lot more of community buzz around Pride than we have seen in the last few years.”

This was the third year for Pride Week activities in Grande Prairie, and Love feels the society has now created a name for itself within the community, which has led to an increased awareness.  She also feels there is still plenty of room for growth in the future.

She adds Grande Prairie is a lot more progressive and supportive to activities such as Pride week than people give it credit for.

“Grande Prairie is really open and excited for Pride. We’ve always had such a supportive community and supportive municipality that I don’t see it dying anytime soon, I can only see it getting bigger.”

Love feels there is room for a Pride parade at some point in the future.
