Rotary Club urging people to purchase Cash and Camping Lottery tickets

Jun 24, 2018 | 6:37 AM

The Swan City Rotary Club was able to present six community groups with proceeds from the two lotteries they run.

Allocations Committee Chair Amanda Reimer says the more tickets that are purchased for the Cash and Camping Lottery as well as the Cars for Christmas Lottery, the more money they can give back to the community.

For the 2017/2018 year, the group was able to give out $75,000 with just over $23,000 given to groups this week. The Bezanson Agricultural Society, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Grande Prairie and Area, Grande Prairie Family Education Society, Grande Prairie Palliative Care Society, Grande Prairie Odyssey House, and the Reel Shorts Film Festival were able to get a chunk of the cash.

“I wish we had more money to hand out. That’s where we tie it in because the more people that support the lottery, the more there is to give back to the community,” said Reimer.

She explains that funds are measured against the club’s guidelines including promoting family values and healthy communities, provides opportunities to assist youth from the greater Grande Prairie and Peace River Area, and results in strong local impact and more local projects supported.

During a club meeting Wednesday, June 20, it was announced that the ticket sales were down 5-percent compared to this time last year. Reimer encourages people to purchase a ticket so that the allocation committee can continue to deliver funds to people in the community.
