Officials with the Grande Prairie Fire Department are reminding the public about the importance of having a working smoke detector in their home.
This after an early Sunday morning fire at a South Patterson neighbourhood home, that did not have any working smoke detectors.
Flames were seen coming out of a bedroom window and extending into the attic once crews arrived on scene around 3:40 AM.
Four people and a family pet were able to get out of the home safely and without injury, and crews were able to extinguish the fire within 30 minutes.
Damage amounts are not known and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
