Late morning explosion sends one to hospital with minor injuries

Aug 18, 2018 | 8:00 PM

The Grande Prairie Fire Department responded to an explosion and fire just before noon.

At roughly 11 a.m., firefighters were called to a report of an explosion at a salvage yard on 100th Street and 128th Avenue.

Upon arriving, they found a 500lb propane tank on fire. The flames had also spread to a nearby excavator. Firefighters extinguished the excavator and cooled the propane tanks until the fire burned itself out.

One employee was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
