Registration open, volunteers needed for the Eastlink Centre Triathlon

Aug 23, 2018 | 12:29 PM

The second Eastlink Centre Triathlon is taking place in early September.

Marketing specialist with the City of Grande Prairie Nikki Lees says they have races for all ages and levels of a triathlete.

“So, this year we have a few different events for people to go into. For adults, we have a try-a-tri, a sprint or a team sprint which are different distances with the swim, bike and run. Then have our kids of steel section which has kids from seven and under up to 15-year-olds.”

This year’s event will see a couple of changes including the standard length of the races being altered to shorter distances on the bike portion as well as adding another category in the kids of steel group.

Dryland sports and event logistics supervisor Tracie Gillis says they are expecting a bigger turnout than last year when participants from across Canada attended.

“We ended up having 242 registrants. We were extremely happy about that. Half were kids and the other half were adults.”

Gillis says the response so far has been great.

She adds ideally, they would like to have around 100 volunteers for the triathlon.

“We are still looking for some.  People are more than welcome to contact Bonnie Hein for donating some of their time that day. It comes with a free volunteer breakfast.”

Those that are interested can click here or contact Bonnie Hein at 780-357-7543.

Registration is open until September 3rd. The race takes place on September 9th.
