Partial closures expected as maintenance goes at Eastlink Centre

Aug 26, 2018 | 6:13 AM

If you are making plans to head down to the Eastlink Centre to swim, keep in mind there are partial closures ongoing.

General Manager for Community Knowledge Campus, Jim Weller says the 25-metre, lazy river, splash park, flow rider, water slides and water features could be impacted by maintenance up until September 10.

“We do an annual maintenance closure every year with the pool itself. It varies from year-to-year what parts get the preventative maintenance on. Every year we do something different and we don’t close the entire pool during the whole time.”

The steam room and sauna are set to be closed on Monday, August 27 to Wednesday, August 29. The hot water is also scheduled to be turned off for a few days due to valve work. Cold showers will only be available while the work starts today and goes until Thursday, August 30.

Weller reminds people that the upcoming triathlon will also mean some closures to the public as well.

“The great news is we are having our second annual triathlon on the ninth. Part of the main pool will be occupied by the (athletes) on this particular day. We have almost 200 people registered for that already. My hope would be that as soon as the triathlon is over we will be able to open up the pool to the public.”

The facility is anticipated to return back to normal for 5:30 a.m. on September 10.
