An Alberta man has been charged after he allegedly abandoned animals in his West Edmonton Mall pet store earlier this year.

The Edmonton Humane Society seized small mammals, reptiles, fish, and amphibians at the now-closed shop on February 27th.

Minchaw Menan Tom of Sherwood Park is facing one count of abandoning animals under the Animal Protection Act, and one count of permitting or causing an animal to be in distress under the Act.

Penalties could include a 20-thousand fine or a lifetime ban from owning a pet.
