Arrests made in connection to Sturgeon Lake shooting incident

Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation – Five people have been arrested and face several charges after two parties exchanged gunfire August 14.

Valleyview RCMP said at the time several adult male and female suspects were involved in the incident where a vehicle and a house were struck with gunfire.

No one was hurt in the incident.

This past Tuesday, the Western Alberta District Rural Crime Reduction Team and Valleyview RCMP members tracked a woman who was wanted on an outstanding warrant.  She was leaving her vehicle to go inside a residence. Officers arrested her and located a loaded long barreled rifle in the vehicle, along with brass knuckles.  She reportedly had a loaded magazine on her.

Winona Kristen Lynn Gouchey (30) of Valleyview is facing nine Criminal Code weapons and firearms related charges.  She remains behind bars and made her first court appearance today.

Later, through a traffic stop officers located a male wanted on outstanding warrants. When RCMP pulled the vehicle over they discovered a firearm between the console and driver’s seat. A rifle, shotgun and SKS rifle were recovered from the vehicle and police say all were fully loaded at the time.

Lawrence Edward Tyson Kiyawasew (29) of Valleyview and Tess Courtoreille (19) of No Fixed Address are facing 18 firearms charges. Kiyawasew was remanded into custody for a court date today.  Courtoreille was released on bail and is due in court September 20.

And that same day, patrols located another male on outstanding warrants.  A vehicle was stopped, and two males were arrested. Officers seized methamphetamine and .22 calibre rifle form the backseat.

Dorian Harvey (20) of Valleyview and Damien Allan James Kappo (26) of Grande Prairie have been charged with possession of methamphetamine and unlawful possession of a firearm.  Harvey was remanded into custody. Kappa was released was released on bail.  They were both due in court today.

All parties arrested except for Courtoreille were arrested on outstanding charges related to their alleged involvement in an August 9, 2018 shooting incident, RCMP said in a media release.
